COS Food Pantry
The COS Food Pantry serves our neighbors in Arundel, Kennebunk, and Kennebunkport in times of need. Our team and extraordinary staff of volunteers are ready to help people get through these tough times. We serve community members ranging from seniors on fixed incomes, to families and individuals who need temporary assistance to get back on their feet.
COS is certified by Good Shepherd Food Bank (GSFB) which partners with Feeding America. This association enables us to purchase food at discounted costs and obtain perishable food from Hannaford Supermarkets.
The COS Operations team has established a wide range of food sourcing that spans from no cost donations and food drives, to subsidized products from partners like GSFB, to retail and bulk purchases that maximize our buying power and minimize food costs.
Our store offers a wide variety of food – here are items we try to have available at the food pantry:
- Fresh and non-perishable foods (availability varies)
- Fruits, vegetables, meats, dairy, baked goods, and prepared meals donated from area stores, farms, and community gardens
- Non-perishable vegetables, fruits, starches, soups & stews, canned meats, breakfast items, pasta dishes, beverages, and condiments
- Personal and Household items (when in stock)
- Pet food (when in stock)
We source this food from a variety of partners, including GSFB and Hannaford, local stores and restaurants, community food drives, and our local farmers including the dedicated team at the Community Garden Committee in Kennebunk.

Mobile Food Pantry & Delivery
We realize that it is hard for some neighbors who need food to make it to the pantry. This can be due to transportation or mobility issues. COS works with the general administration (GA) offices to develop efficient ways to serve these needs. To that end, COS has a mobile food pantry – essentially a mini version of our “grocery store” that travels to where neighbors live. We also have a delivery program that serves others. We continue to explore new ways to efficiently make our food services available to those in need – such as partnering on initiatives like The Kennector, which offers neighbors transportation to the Food Pantry.
School Snacks
COS has sponsored numerous school related food programs over the years, which have evolved to the changing needs and preferences of both the children served and the school staff that help us distribute. Our current program focuses on making healthy snacks available in a discreet manner that is accessible to students without the unwanted stigma often associated with these sorts of programs. COS will continue to work on ways to make sure students have access to food while addressing food insecurity issues in our schools.
Holiday Food Baskets
For decades, this program has provided residents of Arundel, Kennebunk, and Kennebunkport food baskets on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Food boxes containing a turkey or chicken and other ingredients for a festive holiday dinner are delivered directly to our neighbors.
COS supports our three town GA offices by sourcing all the food and volunteers who pack and deliver the baskets a few days before the holiday.
