Specific Needs Program
The Specific Needs program supports our neighbors in times of need who require a little extra help now and then trying to make ends meet. We realize in addition to our elderly neighbors, many single parents and families also struggle to pay rent, get their cars repaired and keep their children provided with clothes, medical attention, and necessary supplies.
COS works directly with local General Assistance (GA) offices to support neighbors through this program. Examples of assistance provided include: eye exams and glasses, clothing, medical attention, car repairs, rent, utility bill payments, summer camp scholarships, gasoline and similar emergency support needs. Neighbors submit requests to their GA offices of the three towns (Arundel, Kennebunk, and Kennebunkport), social workers, police department and church pastors. COS also responds to requests for help for children from school nurses, administrators, and social workers.
Neighbors can submit requests for assistance by contacting their local General Assistance office.
