Town General Assistance

As a community organization, COS takes seriously our responsibility to support our neighbors in times of need through our three core programs – food, fuel, and specific needs. Some of our volunteers and donors have been on the receiving end of help in the past, so we get it. If you find yourself in a situation in which you could benefit from assistance, below are ways in which the towns of Arundel, Kennebunk, and Kennebunkport partner with COS to provide help to our neighbors.

The Food Pantry is our largest program and the only one managed directly by COS. On all other programs we partner with and support the town General Assistance (GA) offices. Neighbor requests for holiday food baskets, fuel assistance, and any other specific needs are made by contacting your town’s GA office directly for assistance and resources available to you. The town GA then contacts COS and other local partnering organizations that may be able to assist with these requests.

Holiday Food Baskets: The towns of Arundel, Kennebunk, and Kennebunkport provide food baskets for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Delivered food boxes contain a turkey or chicken and other meal ingredients for a festive holiday dinner. 

Fuel Assistance: GA offices work with state and federal agencies to provide financial assistance to those that may need help with the purchase of heating fuel. More details and eligibility available through your town GA. 

Specific Needs Assistance: GA offices sometimes offer assistance with other basic needs of their residents. These can include items such as health and medical support, clothing and personal items, car repairs, rent or mortgage assistance, or utility bill payments.
